Edward Longstaff is a British composer, born in 1965.
"Welcome to my website. My recent work has been for solo instrumentalists; Sebastian Kozub, the 'cellist, and Joseph Longstaff, my son and a hornist. 'Ebeneezer Dreams' is a piece for horn and piano, designed to showcase a range of extended techniques. 'A Play on a Lied' is piece for virtuoso solo cello, based on material found in the Schumann lied, 'Allnächtlich Im Traume'.
Earlier this year, the National Youth Wind Ensemble, under their conductor, Phillip Scott, performed my piece 'Changing Scenes' at the Saffron Hall. This is a piece that I am especially fond of, as I wrote it in memoriam of my mother. I was delighted that it had been taken up again, nearly twenty years after the premiere at the RNCM, and the performance moved me deeply. You can see the video here. I am very grateful to Phillip and his young players for the care that they took over the preparation and presentation of this piece."
